I am a retiree and grandmother of eleven with a master’s degree in Psychology. I retired in 2005 and have had numerous creative adventures since that time. After I retired, I developed a business where I duplicated wedding dresses on Porcelain dolls, I created an African American Greeting card line, I designed and created costumes for a local high school for 15 years, I co-authored and published a children’s book with one of my granddaughters, and last and presently, I create visual Black History through my Fiber Art!
I developed a love for narrative art quilting when I joined the Facebook group Quilt Africa Fabrics. The founder of the group is my now friend Miriam Galadima-Benson. I participated in the
challenges the group offered using mystery bundles of African fabric I received from Nigeria. I love the vibrancy of African fabric and I incorporate it into my pieces whenever possible. All my projects begin with research of the subject matter. This sparks ideas to get me started. I have to say that EVERY quilt I have ever created never ends the way it started. Quilts evolve and lead me where they are destined to go.

After sharing my work with Founder and President of the Women of Color Quilter’s Network, Dr. Carolyn L. Mazloomi in 2020, I became a part of the organization, and she opened the door to my first exhibition. I will be forever grateful. I have since participated in twenty-three quilt exhibitions, won six ribbons: Best in Show (Wall Hanging) and Best Use of Embellishments, 1st place Fiber Art category, 3rd place small pictorial category (HIQF), and the Juan Cantavella Award of Distinction (CAL).
I currently have a quilt touring the US (Acquired by the Stark Museum as part of their permanent collection), one on display at the US Embassy in Tallinn, Estonia and an inquiry from the US Embassy in Prague. I was invited and accepted by the Houston International Quilt Festival to feature a seventeen quilt Special Solo Exhibit in the 2024 festival in Houston, Tx and I was selected to participate in the Harlem Fine Art Show – HFAS17 in 2025. This is my passion.
